Kumihimo Beaded Bracelet

Learn beaded kumihimo or expand your finishing skills beyond glue-in endcaps. Learn how to finish your Kongoh Gumi (round braid) bracelet with cones, a wire wrapped loop, and a lobster clasp. Tools needed to bring or purchase include a kumihimo foam disk and 8 weighted thread lockers or a marudai and 8 70 gram tamas.
This class serves as a prerequisite for the Saturday’s class. If you take both Friday and Saturday classes and don’t have tools, you just need to purchase one set of tools.

We don’t mean hay bales when we are talking wirework. Learn to make bails using a variety of top drilled shapes. Wrapped bails will also be taught. You will get a chance to practice your wrapped loops in this class. Walk away with a small cache of dangles and pendants. This is a technique, not a project class.

Make a Pendulum

What better way to celebrate the upcoming Summer Solstice than to make a pendulum? Using stone, chain, and wire, students will create beautiful hanging points. Students will utilize a sampling of important fundamental skills–stringing, crimping, wrapped loops, and wire bails–and learn to use them together to make a swinging pendulum. It can be used for metaphysical practices, play, or simply as a pretty sun catcher. A discussion on how to use them will follow.

Beadazzled Face Shield through Kirkwood

Everyone needs a variety of masks and shields to protect themselves and each other and remain fashionable. Make a blingy and colorful shield by beadazzling colorful and sparkly jewels onto the top. Shields are made locally at the Iowa City Fab Lab.

Seed Bead Weaving 101

Participants in this full day workshop will learn about the materials and techniques used in off loom seed bead weaving. 2 fundamental stitches will be explored: peyote and, herringbone. Ruth Bader Ginsburg (March 15,1933- Sept. 18,2020) was nominated by President Clinton in 1993 to become a Justice of the United States of America’s Supreme Court. This project is in honor of RBG’s commitment to gender equity by creating a mini version of her iconic collars. Participants will form a metal armature around which the beaded collar will be created using brick stitch, netting, and picots. Then add a scales of justice charm to complete the project.

Pearl & Peyote Earrings

Using peyote stitch, make an embellished ring. Learn an innovative technique to dangle a freshwater pearl in the center of the ring. Add some matching pearls on top and an ear wire and you are ready to wear your new earrings.

You’ve not worked daisy chain like this before. Use feather beads and crystals to make a flowing bracelet using a traditional daisy chain stitch (right angle weave). Then add a layer of embellishment.

Basket Weave Cuff

This is the last of a 3-part series of wirework projects using basket weave. Use 7 base wires and 3 simultaneous weaving wires to create the pattern for this cuff bracelet. Tips and tricks for controlling long lengths of wire will be shared. Learn how to end the weaving wires, finish the ends and shape the cuff.

Superduo Leaf Earrings through Kirkwood Community College

Use a two-needle beading technique and 2-hole Super Duo beads to create a beaded leaf. Pull tight for more dimension to your leaf. Add an ear wire and you are ready to go. This is a challenging, yet delightful and very doable project. You will love the results. No experience needed.

This star pattern component can be used as earrings or a pendant, beaded together for a bracelet, and hung from a window or tree as an ornament. Participants will learn to weave three stands of copper wire together, bending them into shape and anchoring the ends. A simple bail will also be created bending wire. Variations to this pendant and ways to approach different shapes will be discussed. Just in time for Valentine’s Day.
This class serves as a great intro to this technique for other wire weaving classes by Zanetta, including Prong Set Pendant on Sun., March 20.
