Beadazzled Face Shield through Kirkwood

Everyone needs a variety of masks and shields to protect themselves and each other and remain fashionable. Make a blingy and colorful shield by beadazzling colorful and sparkly jewels onto the top. Shields are made locally at the Iowa City Fab Lab.

Wire Woven Loop Earrings

Learn to wrap thinner wire around thicker wire. This is a contemporary wire wrapping technique. Create a loop with this technique. Slip a recycled glass donut on this loop to form a lovely earring. Add an ear wire or create your own post.

Participants will create a bracelet with peanut beads, which is like making something two layers thick with only one layer of actual beading. The bracelet is a substantial piece of jewelry that looks great on your wrist. Learn how to finish an edge and add a clasp.

This class will teach you the art of lampworking, a technique of using a torch and melting glass rods to create various shapes. Safety and appropriate equipment handling are emphasized. Your beads will need to stay in a kiln overnight to be annealed.
NOTE: Participants must be at least 15 years old.

Tubular Herringbone Bracelet through Kirkwood

Learn or hone your tubular herringbone skills to create this slightly undulating bracelet. Varied sizes of Toho beads and colors will be stitched to accentuate the ins and outs of the pattern. Your beading will go faster than you think, as you will be stitching 2 beads at a time.

Triple Treat Herringbone Bracelet

This herringbone bracelet helps you learn how to move from a larger base to three individual strips of beading. Connect these three strips back into a larger base on the other end. The clasp will be a perfectly matching vintage button or a handmade glass piece. This bracelet can be worn as a flat three stranded bracelet or twisted for a different look.
Superduo Leaf Earrings

Use a two-needle beading technique and 2-hole Super Duo beads to create a beaded leaf. Pull tight for more dimension to your leaf. Add an ear wire and you are ready to go. This is a challenging, yet delightful and very doable project. You will love the results.

Prerequisites: No experience needed.
Participants will learn to weave three stands of copper wire together, bending them into shape and anchoring the ends. A simple bail will also be created bending wire. Variations to this pendant and ways to approach different shapes will be discussed. Just in time for Valentine’s Day.
This class serves as a great intro to this technique for other wire weaving classes by Zanetta, including Prong Set Pendant on Sun., March 20.

Netted Helix Necklace

Learn to use Toho seed beads and Toho bugle beads to make this elegant helix necklace. Based on knowledge of other beading stitches, participants will choose how to finish the necklace by stringing beads, using Ndebele (herringbone), or cubed right angle weave (CRAW).
Kumihimo Beaded Bracelet

Learn beaded kumihimo or expand your finishing skills beyond glue-in endcaps. Learn how to finish your Kongoh Gumi (round braid) bracelet with cones, a wire wrapped loop, and a lobster clasp. Tools needed to bring or purchase include a kumihimo foam disk and 8 weighted thread lockers or a marudai and 8 70 gram tamas.
This class serves as a prerequisite for the Saturday’s class. If you take both Friday and Saturday classes and don’t have tools, you just need to purchase one set of tools.

We don’t mean hay bales when we are talking wirework. Learn to make bails using a variety of top drilled shapes. Wrapped bails will also be taught. You will get a chance to practice your wrapped loops in this class. Walk away with a small cache of dangles and pendants. This is a technique, not a project class.

What better way to celebrate the upcoming Summer Solstice than to make a pendulum? Using stone, chain, and wire, students will create beautiful hanging points. Students will utilize a sampling of important fundamental skills–stringing, crimping, wrapped loops, and wire bails–and learn to use them together to make a swinging pendulum. It can be used for metaphysical practices, play, or simply as a pretty sun catcher. A discussion on how to use them will follow.
