This workshop involves the fundamentals of soldering. Learn and hone a variety of soldering skills—connecting an open jump ring, adding a ring to another piece, and more. Practice both sweat and spot soldering. Leave with a variety of samples and a new set of skills.
This class serves as a prerequisite for many metalworking classes.

This class will teach you the art of lampworking, a technique of using a torch and melting glass rods to create various shapes. Safety and appropriate equipment handling are emphasized. Your beads will need to stay in a kiln overnight to be annealed.
NOTE: Participants must be at least 15 years old.
This class serves as a prerequisite for next steps lampworking classes.
Call 319 338-1566 to get on a waiting list. When we have two people on the list, we will schedule another session. Registration is $120 and includes all materials, use of tools and supplies, instruction, and annealing.

Use a combination of peyote and herringbone stitches to create a curvy sided square with Delica beads. Then develop a pattern using peyote stitch for the bracelet band. The pattern for the bracelet’s center will make great matching earrings.
Swirl and Vortex Boro Marbles

Brick stitch is a fun stitch for making shapes and patterns. Make a triangle, then learn tips and tricks for adding fringe that flows well yet is not too loose. No experience necessary.

Friday Night Out: Cupped Copper Earrings

This project uses peyote and herringbone stitches to create square earring that look like a classic quilt square. Learn to follow a beading pattern. The earring are finished with a wire guard. You can invert the colors on the second square for a mismatched yet perfectly balanced look.

Metal Bezel Pendant

This is a “next steps” lampworking glass about two embellishment techniques. Learn to wrap metal foil around a warm bead and encase it without burning off the foil. Practice using different sizes of glass frit to get color and texture. If time, play with combining these techniques.
