Byzantine Bracelet Kit

Learn the basics of byzantine chain maille to make a bracelet. Chain maille is a technique of taking individual open jump rings and putting them together to form a mesh or chain. Proper tool handling and opening and closing of rings is emphasized. The rings are anodized aluminum and the clasp is a plated snap clasp.

The rainbow bracelets were part of our celebration of over 50 years of Pride in Iowa City. The rings used in these bracelets are anodized aluminum, unless otherwise listed. This strung necklace is a gorgeous hodgepodge of varied pearls, sterling silver chunk and round spacers, and turquoise chips. Connected to pewter rings, there is an asymmetrical spray of turquoise drops, and the piece clasps with a large sterling silver lobster clasp. A fantastic statement piece.

This design was inspired by inappropriate remarks from 2018 Presidential candidate Donald Trump about grabbing women’s crotches. Our “grabbable” parts should be more under our control and visible to the world, hence “vagearring”. Designed by Karen Kubby.
This pattern uses peyote stitch with herringbone corners to make a marquis. Then embellish the base with netting to create a ruffle. The ear wires are niobium. Add a pearl in just the right place, and you are a women in control!
