Use your CRAW skills to make a layered beaded bead. Then switch to your wireworking skills to create a lovely pair of earrings that end with a handmade glass bead.
During the COVID-19 recovery period, classes are limited to 6 people on a first come first served basis via paying the registration fee. These seasonal earrings will be creating following a pattern by Marsha Wiest-Hines in the October issue of Bead & Button magazine. Use tubular peyote, with 2-hole crescent beads, Toho demis, and round seed beads. Be careful of squirrels following you when wearing these earrings.

Using two sizes of Toho round beads and Cubed Right Angle weave to make a curved piece. Connect it into a circle. Embellish the circle on the bottom with more CRAW units and the sides with stitchin’ in the ditch. This is a fun way to use your CRAW skills.

Brick stitch is an off-loom seed bead weaving stitch that can be made into endless patterns. In this class, use Delica beads in brick stitch to create an owl motif. Then glue it onto a bookmark. A perfect combination for beading in the City of Literature. These owls make awesome earrings, too.

Peyote stitch is a basic and incredibly versatile seed bead weaving technique. Beading magazines have many projects that utilize peyote stitch. This workshop will share flat and tubular peyote, even count, using Toho and Delica seed beads. Learn when to use each stitch and walk away with samples of each.
This class is a prerequisite for Color Gradient and Raised Triangle Earrings—both scheduled in April.

Weaving with beads isn’t has complicated as it looks. Peyote stitch is a versatile and often used seed bead weaving technique. Students will make beads by beading a rectangle, embellishing it if you choose, then folding and zipping it closed to make a tight and seamless tube. Samples of finished jewelry using peyote stitch will be available.
Registration is through Kirkwood Community College. Register at:
www.kirkwood.edu and go to Continuing Education and then search for Beadology Iowa under the instructor search. On site registrations will be taken if registration through Kirkwood meets minimum requirements of two participants. Instructor: Karen Kubby.

Participants will make a long cubed right angle weave chain with one size of round Toho beads. Decisions on where to stitch the chain together will be determined by the student.
