This workshop will focus on using tools and gravity to shape beads. Participants will focus on making a bicone and vase shape. Lots of practice will lead to consistent results.

This intermediate lampworking class will challenge you to layer many colors of glass, creating a large bead. Then use rubio (glass with gold in it) dots and melt them in to spread open the top layer of glass to reveal what is underneath.

End of Day Lampwork Headpins

Take glass scraps from your lampworking session and turn them into a glass headpin. Techniques for adding glass, ensuring the top of the headpin is well rounded, and pulling the glass will be emphasized.

Flower Power: Glass Flower Disks

Learn to make a disk with layers of colors. Spot heating will allow you to use tools to manipulate the glass into a flower. These beads are great for making pendants, earrings, and can be used as a clasp.

Making glass beads is great fun and an opportunity to play with fire in a controlled and supportive environment. This class will teach you the art of lampworking, a technique of using a torch and melting Italian Effetre glass rods to create various shapes. Safety and appropriate equipment handling are emphasized. Your beads will need to stay in a kiln overnight to be annealed.
*NOTE:Participants must be at least 15 years old.*

Next Steps in Lampworking: Hollow Beads

Hollow beads are a challenge as you need heat to melt the glass, yet too much heat contracts the glass and you lose the hollow nature of your bead. Learn tips and tricks to making hollow beads. Try making a bead inside your hollow bead.

This is a “next steps” lampworking glass about two embellishment techniques. Learn to wrap metal foil around a warm bead and encase it without burning off the foil. Practice using different sizes of glass frit to get color and texture. If time, play with combining these techniques.
