Kumihimo Companion Animal Collar

Prerequisites: No experience needed.
Use a Kara-Yatsu flat kumihimo braid in two colors of satin cord to create a collar for your favorite companion animal. Add a ring to hang tags and connect a lead. A medium sized quick release will be used. Foam disk, 8 weighted bobbins, and weight container included with the tool fee.
Registration fee goes down to $68 if you have and bring tools needed for this class.

Prerequisites: Kumihimo Basic Round Braid--see class on Fri. October 6.
You feel comfortable with Kongoh Gumi (basic round braid) and are ready to learn a new braid. Edo Yatsu, also known as basketweave braid, is another useful kumihimo braid. Learn how to braid around a core as well as adding beads to the braid. This class that will prepare you for continuous beaded braids, if you desire.

This bracelet will teach several principles to add to your basic round braid (Kongoh Gumi) kumihimo skills. What do you do if you want to add beads with very small holes (pearls, gems, crystals)? What is a core and how do you use it? How do you braid with more than one element on a strand? These questions will all be answered through this project. Instructor: Laurel Kubby

This is a great introduction to the Japanese tradition of Kumihimo. Learn to use a disk to braid satin cord. You will have a selection of charms to add to your weaving. No experience needed.
Registration is through Kirkwood Community College. Register at: www.kirkwood.edu and go to Continuing Education and then search for Beadology Iowa under the instructor search. On site registrations will be taken if registration through Kirkwood meets minimum requirements of two participants.
