Herringbone Stitch Techniques

International Women’s Day Gyrls Night Out: Make Paper Beads

Celebrate International Women’s Day by taking images of strong women and feminist themes and making paper beads. Learn to roll paper to make a variety of different shapes of beads. Finish your beads with lacquer to make them sturdy and highly functional. Bring paper samples if you like: magazines, comic books, feminist poetry, old music sheets. Add some texture with thread. No one will believe these beads are paper.

Prerequisites: No experience needed.
Learn how to manipulate solid borosilicate glass. Participants will make a variety of shapes that create glass skills of pushing, pulling, adding color, and making a bail. Shapes worked on in class include a pawn, basic marble, icicle pendant, and a mushroom pendant.
This class serves as the prerequisite for other Boro classes.
Since this class is full, please call 319 338-1566 to get in a waiting list. When we have two people on the list, we will schedule another session.
Registration is $128 in includes all materials, instruction, and use of tools and equipment during class.

Introduction to Cubed Right Angle Weave–CRAW–through Kirkwood Community College

Cubed Right Angle Weave (CRAW) is a fun and fascinating stitch. It is hard to learn from video or written instructions. In this class, you will learn CRAW techniques with Toho 8/0 beads. This is not a projects class. You will leave with a sample of CRAW. The picture is of a small pendant using CRAW.

a focus on professional stringing techniques. You will make one bracelet using Czech Republic
pressed glass beads and sterling silver spacers and clasp. This piece will be strung on flexible
wire using crimp beads with instruction on the proper use of crimping pliers. Your piece will be
secure and beautiful. No previous experience is necessary. Instructor: Cheryl Weatherford

This round braid has a huge advantage over kongo-gumi, the first braid that most people learn. It does not spiral. This allows you to have beads hang along one edge (or 2) without distortion. This is perfect for necklaces & bracelets. In this class, you will make a necklace with Swarovski pearls along one edge.
This technique is suitable for beginners (with some experience) on the marudai & adventuresome, experienced beginners on the disc.

Learn how counted bead stringing can add pop to your Kongoh Gumi (round braid) beaded braids. Include in this class will be tips on adding a pendant or large-holed bead during the braiding process as well as an adjustable sliding closure.

Wide and Textured 20’s Weave Bracelet

This project provides lots of practice with a netting stitch. The embellishment is an innovate modification that provides texture through connecting sections of the bracelet together, rather than adding additional elements.
During the COVID-19 recovery period, classes are limited to 6 people on a first come first served basis via paying the registration fee. Face coverings must be worn during class and participants will be spaced at least 6 feet from each other. Tools will not be shared and will be cleaned before and after use. Expand your kumihimo finishing skills beyond glue-in endcaps. Learn how to make a button & loop closure for a textured Kongoh Gumi (round braid) bracelet. This project was designed and the instructions created by Laurel Kubby.

Herringbone Cuff Bracelet

Learn herringbone, or Ndeble stitch, a fundamental stitch used in many contemporary bead books and magazine projects. Participants will use Toho seed beads and bugle beads to learn to increase to make their piece wider in the middle and how to decrease to bring the end of their cuff down to the original width near the clasp. The end result is a fun and fast beaded cuff bracelet.
