Drop Earrings

Use your wireworking skills to create the base of the earring and add dangles with Swarovski crystals and precious metal spacer beads.

Bird’s Nest Pendant–great gift project

A great way to utilize wire and pearls, stones, or crystal to create a quick and beautiful bird’s nest pendant filled with “eggs”. Make a smaller version on your own for earrings. Use birth stone colors to represent children in a family as a precious gift.

Many want to flip the House of Representatives to Democratic Control. We want you to learn to use brick stitch, Toho seed beads, and a rubber ring to make a pair of earrings that use two high contrast colors that are “flipped” on each half of the earring. Learn herringbone, or Ndeble stitch, a fundamental stitch used in many contemporary bead books and magazine projects. Participants will use Toho seed beads and bugle beads to learn to increase to make their piece wider in the middle and how to decrease to bring the end of their cuff down to the original width near the clasp. The end result is a fun and fast beaded cuff bracelet.

International Women’s Day Gyrls Night Out: Make Paper Beads

Celebrate International Women’s Day by taking images of strong women and feminist themes and making paper beads. Learn to roll paper to make a variety of different shapes of beads. Finish your beads with lacquer to make them sturdy and highly functional. Bring paper samples if you like: magazines, comic books, feminist poetry, old music sheets. Add some texture with thread. No one will believe these beads are paper.

Introduction to Cubed Right Angle Weave–CRAW–through Kirkwood Community College

Cubed Right Angle Weave (CRAW) is a fun and fascinating stitch. It is hard to learn from video or written instructions. In this class, you will learn CRAW techniques with Toho 8/0 beads. This is not a projects class. You will leave with a sample of CRAW. The picture is of a small pendant using CRAW.
Registration is through Kirkwood Community College. Register at:
www.kirkwood.edu and go to Continuing Education and then search for Beadology Iowa under the instructor search. On site registrations will be taken if registration through Kirkwood meets minimum requirements of two participants.

Registration is $28 and includes all materials and instruction. Register through the Center by calling 319 356-5220 to register. Payment is made on site at the time of class.

Bead crochet not your thing? Learn to use peyote stitch to mimic single stitch bead crochet. This technique was introduced in 2017 by Gerlinde Lenz. Participants will learn to follow a pattern that will repeat, so you get the hang of it. Be prepared to want more after learning this clever, addictive variation of peyote stitch. The end product is a slide to add to a lariat of your choice.
