Prerequisites: Basic Peyote Skills
Use a combination of peyote stitch and herringbone with Delica 11/0 beads to create a small wing. Sew this wing together and embellish with a larger focal bead. Add an ear wire and you are ready for the weekend. Optional dutch treat snacks and drinks after class in a nearby downtown location.

Learn how to use flexwire and crimp beads by making an eyeglass holder. The design considerations for how this is different than the strategy for a necklace will be discussed. Create your piece with seed beads and Czech pressed glass pieces. You’ll be able to make bracelets and necklaces with your new skill.

Using the pattern from designer Connie, create earrings from the tassels in her La Petite Bouteille Necklace. These earrings use small glass bulbs, bugle and round beads, and herringbone stitch to make these filled ornament earrings. You must purchase and bring this tutorial to participate in this class ($7.99 downloadable, call if you need help with printing).
Russian Leaf Pendant through Kirkwood Community College

Use your peyote skills to learn diagonal peyote with Delica seed beads. Embellish your leaf with Toho round seed beads. These leaves are wonderful as a pendant, earrings, or a branch full of them cascading down a lariat. Modifications to make them thinner, wider, and longer will be discussed.
Registration is through Kirkwood Community College. Register at:
www.kirkwood.edu and go to Continuing Education and then search for Beadology Iowa under the instructor search. On site registrations will be taken if registration through Kirkwood meets minimum requirements of two participants.
$30 instructor fee/$28 materials fee to be paid before class. Class conducted in room 054 of the Kirkwood Regional Center on the UI Campus at 2301 Oakdale Blvd, in Coralville.

This class uses a variety of materials. Take a large-holed focal bead, add leather (vegan option available), waxed linen, seed beads, and metal beads. Use various knotting techniques to put them all together, and viola, you have a boho bracelet. Add an adjustable clasp and it makes it a perfect fit for anyone.

Drukin’ Kumihimo Bracelet

Use 4mm druks (Czech round glass beads) and Toho 11/0s in a kongoh gumi (round) variation. You will learn to move non-paired beads, creating a rope that does not appear to spiral in the traditional way. This braid can be made on both a disc and marudai.
You can bring your own foam disk and weighted bobbins, or purchase them as part of the class fee for an additional $20. Please call to register if you need the tool kit.

Bead crochet not your thing? Learn to use peyote stitch to mimic single stitch bead crochet. This technique was introduced in 2017 by Gerlinde Lenz. Participants will learn to follow a pattern that will repeat, so you get the hang of it. Be prepared to want more after learning this clever, addictive variation of peyote stitch. The end product is a slide to add to a lariat of your choice.

Snake Weave Bracelet
