In this full day metalworking class, learn the fundamentals of metalworking: sawing, filing, drilling, riveting, and stamping. Then design your pendant and put your newfound or refreshed skills to work.
This class serves as a prerequisite for many classes in our metalworking series. No soldering involved in this project.

Learn to form, cut, and close your own jump rings that are consistent in size and shape. Then use your soldering skills to make them into a chain. You will also learn to make an “S” hook clasp for your chain.

In part one, manipulate BronzClay into a pendant using a variety of techniques: rolling, pushing, carving, and using slip to create texture. Pieces will be fired and tumbled. In part two, use multiple metal working techniques such as filing, drilling, and soldering, to finish your pendant.

Create designs on copper sheeting using a variety of techniques. Safe use of acid will etch away at your metal to reveal the design underneath. There will be time for many samples to be made.

Foldforming is a great technique of metal working to create simple or elaborate three-dimensional forms.This process is done by repeatedly annealing, forging, folding and unfolding a piece of metal. It is a wonderful design element and technique to create organic lines and shapes in metal. Participants will use sheet copper to create their pieces.
Riveted Pendant

This project has three different kinds of rivets in it. Learn and practice each one. Riveting is just one of many “cold connections”—those done without the use of soldering. You will be working with copper disks, rivets, and brass sheeting.
Cupped Copper Earrings through Kirkwood Community College

Prerequisites: No experience needed.
Participants will learn to stamp and dap copper disks into earrings of their design. Some may choose to keep their copper bright or oxidize it for a different look. Beads will be added to the center and/or the bottom. This is an active, fun, and loud class. This is a great intro metal working class.
Registration is through Kirkwood Community College. Register at:
kirkwood.edu and go to Continuing Education and then search for Beadology Iowa under the instructor search. On site registrations will be taken if registration through Kirkwood meets minimum requirements of two participants.
$30 instructor fee/$38 materials fee.
Riveted Earrings
