Flame II: Next Steps in Making Glass Beads

Prerequisites: Make Glass Beads or flamework studio experience must be demonstrated.
Continue to explore the art of lampworking with a torch and glass rods. In this class, you will learn more techniques for manipulating color, making the perfect dot, and shaping with a goal of making a variety of more complicated shapes, including a hollow bead–see the great fish beads in the photo to the left. Your beads will be annealed overnight at the store.
You must be at least 15 years old to register for this class.

Make Glass Beads: Intro to Lampworking through Kirkwood Community College

Prerequisites: No experience necessary.
This class will teach you the art of lampworking, a technique of using a torch and melting glass rods to create various shapes. Safety and appropriate equipment handling are emphasized. Your beads will need to stay in a kiln overnight to be annealed. No previous experience needed.
NOTE: Participants must be at least 15 years old.
Registration is through Kirkwood Community College. Register at:
kirkwood.edu On site registrations will be taken if registration through Kirkwood meets minimum requirements of two participants.
$50 instructor fee/$80 materials fee.

Using silver and copper wire, add Effetre glass to the bottom, and you have a fancy, handmade, glass headpin. Take this technique in whatever direction you please by adding embellishments or encasement. Instructor: Karen Kubby
