Make 3 Pairs of Earrings: Intro to Wirework through Kirkwood Community College

Prerequisites: No experience needed.
This is a great introduction to wirework. Two skills are learned and practiced—making a closed wrapped loop and making this loop into another closed loop. This set of skills allows you go make secure earrings, pendants, and chains. You will make earrings from Czech pressed glass, stone, fresh water pearls, and Swarovski crystals.
Note: This class serves as a pre-requisite for many of our classes. It is a handy skill.

Gyrls Night Out: Chevron Beaded Bracelet

Use Toho seed beads to learn ladder stitch and chevron stitch to make a quick and simple bracelet that has high impact. You will use one color of larger beads for the base and then embellish it with slightly smaller beads in three colors. The “V” shape is stunning.

Join internationally known basket weaver and wire jewelry artist Marilyn Moore in a wire cloth class. Make this bead encrusted broach exploring ways to use wire cloth and beads. This luxurious looking adornment will be a fun exploration into these materials. Hemming wire cloth and stitching beads using simple beading techniques will be covered. You can turn this piece into a barrette by simply stitching on a different finding.

Capped Caged Earrings

This is a great next steps wire working class for those with basic wire wrapping and weavings skills. Participants will create a wire woven cage that will sit on top of a bead, to make a dangly pair of earrings. These cages make for a great component in other jewelry projects.

Make 2 Bracelets: Intro to Stringing

Stringing beads is a fundamental jewelry making skill. This class places a focus on aesthetics, functionality, and security. You will make two bracelets using Czech Republic pressed glass beads and sterling silver spacers. One bracelet will be made strung on nylon and the second on flexible wire. Both bracelets will be beautiful and secure.

Four Arches Earrings

Use a combination of right angle weave, brick stitch, and picots to make these lovely earrings that have 4 arches in a circle. It’s a great intro to seed bead weaving and fun for the more experienced.

Riveted Earrings

Create a pair of metal earrings without any soldering. Rivets are the “cold connection” used in this project. It’s a wonderful technique for those wanting to begin making metal jewelry. It is a fundamental technique for those who already are metal workers.

Brick stitch is a fun stitch for making shapes and patterns. Make a triangle, then learn tips and tricks for adding fringe that flows well yet is not too loose. No experience necessary.

Next Steps in Lampworking: Hollow Beads

Hollow beads are a challenge as you need heat to melt the glass, yet too much heat contracts the glass and you lose the hollow nature of your bead. Learn tips and tricks to making hollow beads. Try making a bead inside your hollow bead.

New Class! Dutch Spiral Bracelet with Hidden Magnetic Clasp

Dutch Spiral is a modification of tubular peyote. Participants will learn to use varied sizes and/or shapes of beads and add more than one bead into a stitch to create the undulation of the spirals. Learn how to incorporate a hidden magnetic clasp.

Coiling a Cabochon

This intricate-looking project is great for wire weaving beginners and focuses on the coiled wire decoration that sits along the edge of a gemstone cabochon. Students will get a fundamental understanding of weaving with decorative bands, create a double spiral and learn how to use household tools to make the wire weaving process easier. A multi-speed drill demonstration will be provided during class on how to pre-coil wire for future projects.

Use a jeweler’s saw and bench pin to cut out a design from a copper disk. Utilize your cut out or parts of it, as a dangle for your earring. Add an ear wire and you are ready to wear.

Learn aluminum cutting techniques and how to layer and bind them to create dazzling bangles for pendants, earrings, bags or headbands! Turn your creations into a piece of jewelry during class.

Learn how to mix and apply clear resin in a jewelry bezel. Bring your own objects to add to this project. Items should be flat. Paper items can be cut to fit.
Class Cancellation Policy
Class fees are due at time of registration. Cancellations must be made at least 5 days in advance of class in order to receive store credit. There are no cash refunds for cancellations issued by the student.
If Beadology Iowa cancels a class, the student can choose to transfer registration to another class, receive store credit, or receive a cash refund.
With a completed class, participants will receive a single-use card good for double rewards points on an entire purchase within 10 days of the class.
Wire Wrapping Stones: an Introduction
