This mug rug looks like a little woven rug—and it is! It is made using peyote stitch, glass seed beads, and pressed glass feather beads from the Czech Republic.
Peyote stitch is easy to learn and the end result is a lovely piece of artwork on which to set a mug full of hot or cold beverage.
Kit #1 contains all materials and instructions so you can start and complete this project, including blue and clear rainbow seed beads with vibrant etched blue and magenta feather beads. The picture shows a completed mug rug in another color way. This kit is child-friendly!
Use peyote stitch to cover the new 2-hole carrier beads with a simple pattern with Delica beads. Embellish them with Swarovski crystals using basic wirework skills for a dynamic pair of earrings.
Weaving with beads isn’t has complicated as it looks. Peyote stitch is a versatile and often used seed bead weaving technique. Students will make beads by beading a rectangle, embellishing it if you choose, then folding and zipping it closed to make a tight and seamless tube. Samples of finished jewelry using peyote stitch will be available.
Registration is through Kirkwood Community College. Register at:
www.kirkwood.edu and go to Continuing Education and then search for Beadology Iowa under the instructor search. On site registrations will be taken if registration through Kirkwood meets minimum requirements of two participants. Instructor: Karen Kubby.
Participants in this full day workshop will learn about the materials and techniques used in off loom seed bead weaving. 2 fundamental stitches will be explored: peyote and, herringbone. Both stitches can be done flat or tubular. This class will be a supportive emersion into this slightly addictive art form.
