Cupped Copper Earrings through Kirkwood Community College

Description:

Learn to stamp and dap copper disks into earrings of your design.  Keep your copper bright or oxidize it for a different look.  Then add beads to the center and/or the bottom.  This is an active and loud class.  Ear wires provided are copper, sterling is an additional cost.

Registration is through Kirkwood Community College where you will pay an instructor fee of $35.. Register at:

www.kirkwood.edu and go to Continuing Education and then search for Beadology Iowa under the instructor search.  On site registrations will be taken if registration through Kirkwood meets minimum requirements of two participants.

There is a $25 materials fee at the beginning of class.


Soldered Pendant through Kirkwood Community College Continuing Education Program

Description:
Learn both sweat soldering and spot soldering.  Using wire disks and sterling wire, create a one-of-a-kind pendant.  You will be using a butane and/or propane torch in this class.

Wire Wrapping Stones

Here is our version of the $200 plus designer wrapped stone and linen bracelet.  Use it as a longer necklace, a double stranded necklace, or as a 3-5 strand wrapped bracelet.  This is an incredibly versatile piece of jewelry.  Learn to use a crochet hook to make a slip stitch with graduated sizes of beads to make this highly functional piece.

Eyeglass Holder through Kirkwood Community College

Learn how to use flexwire and crimp beads by making an eyeglass holder. Design your piece with seed beads and Czech pressed glass pieces. You'll be able to make bracelets and necklaces with your new skill.

Make Glass Beads--Flame I--Intro to Lampworking

Description:

Making glass beads is great fun and an opportunity to do something outside of your normal routine.  You’ll have an unusual response to give when friends ask you what is new in your life.  This class will increase your hand-eye coordination and allow you to make beads that can be used in jewelry making. 

 This class will teach you the art of lampworking, a technique of using a torch and melting glass rods to create various shapes.  Safety and appropriate equipment handling are emphasized.  Your beads will need to stay in a kiln overnight to be annealed. 

NOTE:  Participants must be at least 15 years old.

Description:

Come for a full evening of beading, instruction, food, and fun.  Bring unfinished projects, get assistance from Beadology Iowa staff, use the flame studio (for those with Flame I or Intro to Boro or equivalent).  The structured project will be a wrapped beaded bracelet.  This will also be a time to get or freshen up your cubed right angle weave skills for the RAW Links Bracelet class on May 30.

RAW Links Bracelet

Description:

Make cubed right angle weave frames and learn to connect them with peyote stitch to make a negative space bracelet.  We will be using three different stitches, two different embellishment techniques, and three different sized beads.  Variations on this design will be discussed in class.  

 Prerequisite:  Cubed Right Angle Weave.
