Description:
Learn both sweat soldering and spot soldering.  Using wire disks and sterling wire, create a one-of-a-kind pendant.  You will be using a butane and/or propane torch in this class.


 
There is a $45 registration fee through Kirkwood and a $25 materials fee at the beginning of class.


Make Glass Beads: Introduction to Lampworking through Kirkwood Community College Continuing Education Program.

Description:
Making glass beads is great fun and an opportunity to do something outside of your normal routine. You?ll have an unusual response to give when friends ask you what is new in your life. This class will increase your hand-eye coordination and allow you to make beads that can be used in jewelry making. This class will teach you the art of lampworking, a technique of using a torch and melting glass rods to create various shapes. Safety and appropriate equipment handling are emphasized. Your beads will need to stay in a kiln overnight to be annealed.

Instructor fee through Kirkwood is $50 and there is a $45 materials fee at the beginning of class.
NOTE: Participants must be at least 15 years old. Registration is through Kirkwood Community College. Use solid boro glass rods to create marbles and pendants. Take peyote stitch to a new “horned” shape to create winged beaded beads.  Make them different colors, different sizes, and you have a new component for your beading repertoire.  Materials will be provided to make a pair of earrings from your components.

Use your soldering skills to make a bezel around a stone cabochon.  Participants will make a simple pendant as a vehicle for learning metal bezeling skills.

Dutch Spiral through Kirkwood Community College Continuing Education Program

Description:
Dutch spiral is a variation of round peyote stitch.  Add drops and multiple beads per stitch to add color and texture to create an undulating tube of beads for use as a bracelet or lariat.  The picture to the left is a finished necklace using Dutch Spiral.

Make 2 Bracelets: Introduction to Stringing

Description:

Bracelets are big this season.  Wearing multiple bracelets at once is even better.  This class places a focus on professional stringing and design techniques.  You will make two bracelets using two different stringing materials. One bracelet will be made strung on nylon using glass beads from the Czech Republic and sterling silver beads.  The second bracelet will be strung on flexible wire and made with handmade glass and Swarovski crystals.  You will learn how to use crimp beads to finish this bracelet.  Both bracelets will be secure and beautiful.

Make 3 Pairs of Earrings: Introduction to Wirework

Description:

Who doesn’t need a new pair of earrings?  Learn to make earrings for yourself or as gifts.  Two wirework skills will be practiced and used to make three pairs of earrings.  The first skill is making a closed wrapped loop that allows you to make earrings and pendants.  The second skill is making a closed wrapped loop inside of a closed loop, allowing you to attach dangles to chains.  You will make earrings from glass, stone, pearls, and Swarovski crystals.

Solid instruction on the use of jewelry tools will assist you in making three pairs of earrings.  You will receive encouragement in discovering simple yet elegant earring designs.
