Description:
Making glass beads is great fun and an opportunity to do something outside of your normal routine. You?ll have an unusual response to give when friends ask you what is new in your life. This class will increase your hand-eye coordination and allow you to make beads that can be used in jewelry making. This class will teach you the art of lampworking, a technique of using a torch and melting glass rods to create various shapes. Safety and appropriate equipment handling are emphasized. Your beads will need to stay in a kiln overnight to be annealed.

Instructor fee through Kirkwood is $50 and there is a $45 materials fee at the beginning of class.
NOTE: Participants must be at least 15 years old. Registration is through Kirkwood Community College. Register at: www.kirkwood.edu and go to Continuing Education and then search for Beadology Iowa under the instructor search. On site registrations will be taken if registration through Kirkwood meets minimum requirements of two participants.


Soldered Pendant through Kirkwood Community College Continuing Education Program--This class is full-please call to get on the waiting list.

Description:
Learn both sweat soldering and spot soldering.  Using wire disks and sterling wire, create a one-of-a-kind pendant.  You will be using a butane and/or propane torch in this class.


 
There is a $45 registration fee through Kirkwood and a $25 materials fee at the beginning of class.

Peyote stitch is a basic and incredibly versatile seed bead weaving technique. Beading magazines have many projects that utilize peyote stitch. This workshop will share even count flat and tubular peyote techniques.  This is a skill building class without a specific project.  Learn when to use each stitch and walk away with samples of each.

Cubed Right Angle Weave (3RAW) is a fun and fascinating stitch.  It is hard to learn from video or written instructions.  In this class you will learn 3RAW with larger beads to create a pendant.  Move on to embellishing the piece by “stitchin’ in the ditch”.

Dutch Spiral through Kirkwood Community College Continuing Education Program

Dutch spiral is a variation of round peyote stitch.  Add drops and multiple beads per stitch to add color and texture to create an undulating tube of beads for use as a bracelet or lariat.  The picture to the left is a finished necklace using Dutch Spiral.
